2010 Elections in the Philippines and Internet Marketing
In the past elections, Chiz Escudero (one of the senators in the Philippines) have used the internet and social networking for his online campaign. Presidentiable Mar Roxas has a website, a blog and have accounts in various social media and networking sites.
In the last online mock up senatorial elections participated by about a 100,000 of overseas Filipino workers, 9 out of 12 of their bets became senators according to the webmaster who started the poll online. A list of nominees are already listed here. According to the Pulse Asia survey that was made last year, the top three that leads the race is Noli de Castro, Loren Legarda and Chiz Escudero respectively.
Frankly speaking, they still have a lot to learn from the Winner of 2008 US Presidential Election Best Internet Marketing - BarackObama.com. The rating system has been said to be based on the 13 components of internet advertising, search engine marketing and political website design. Barack Obama’s website has a portion where groups are segregated into different states could gather and help in the campaign. In his website, specific agendas on different issues are listed.
However, one must not rely solely on online campaigns. A combination of online campaign, mobile campaign (Philippines, being the SMS capital) and personal campaigns is certainly the way to go since there are still a lot who do not have access to the Internet. By the way, I have listed down several social media and networking sites that one could use.
Social Media and Networking Sites to use:
- Friendster
- Multiply
- Plurk
- YouTube
Most importantly, one should have built trust and good reputation. Campaigns are nothing if there’s no trust from the people.
